That if I don't respond to any posts or haven't welcomed any new folk it's nothing personal but thanks to my collapsed discs in my neck I can only sit for so long at the computer before my left arm starts really stinging with pins and needles or goes numb. Are the docs doing anything to treat this, Julie?
Will e-mail shortly - hopefully meeting Doreen in Bradford for lunch after her next rheummy appt. It'd be nice if you are free as well.
Love Jeanxxxx

i find the wheatie cushion in the microwave helps me a lot with my neck- have you thought about getting a small lap top, even an iphone and dragon voice software?

Hi Julie, Sorry to hear about your neck, I have a number of prolapsed discs in the lumber region and cannot sit for long, but it doesn't effect my hands. Anyway, most of my typing is done lying down whilst propped up by cushions . Collapsed discs in the neck is nasty and very painful... what can be done about it? Hope you feel better soon, love, Barbara XXXXXX

Thank you my dears (except for Doreen The only thing I've been offeed is physio but to be honest I can't be bothered with yet another trail to yet another medical appt. right now. The only other other option would be surgery but I agree witrh the gp when she said that surgeons are reluctant to operate on such a vital area unless it is really necessary. Hi Julie Sorry to hear of your problems. Hope you are able to get some relief soon one way or another as it really gets you down when your neck doesn't work properly. It's surprising how important a functioning neck actually is, I for one certainly take it for granted when it's doing what it's supposed to! Warm neck pillows are great and may offer you a bit of respite or indeed comfort. I got some exercises from my physio, only basic ones and very gentle, but they did help to strengthen the muscles around the damaged area. I think my problems are around C5/C6. I'll gladly type them up for you if you think it might help but I wouldn't want to be making you any worse for goodness sake if they're not appropriate! Hope you're feeling better soon! Lyn x

Hi Julie,
It could be worth you going to physio just to find out what exercises you can do, then they will probably let you do them at home. Like Lyn, I was given some gentle neck exercises and they do help. I don't have collapsed discs like you have but the exercises strengthen the muscles so that you get more support.

Lyn x Thank you everyone! I couldn't live without my wheat bags! Lyn, I would very much appreciate the exercises please-I think together with Amanda's wine suggestion, they should do the trick nicely! YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Am thinking of you Julie - every move you make involeves some movement in your neck. Hope you have good pain relief. If the wine doesn'[t work - resort to the gin! I take it you are offf work?

Be very careful with your neck Julie. I have read that you should only do neck exercises that have been given to you by a physio. It's possible they could give you the same ones as Lyn has but best to make sure or you could cause more damage. The wine, of course, is permissible! Doreen xx
